Alabama Gains Major Recruiting Momentum for 2028 Four-Star OL

The University of Alabama is trending in a positive direction for a four-star 2028 recruit.

On3 VP of National Recruiting Steve Wiltfong has predicted Alabama to land Huntsville offensive lineman Joey Fleming.

Fleming had visited Tuscaloosa in June, and clearly it went well.

He had said in the past that Alabama has been a place he’s been eyeing his whole life. Another interesting comment that Fleming had made was when he was asked about his interest in Ohio State.

He said, “When I go to visit schools, I look for history and reputation…”

You’d be hard-pressed to find a school with more history than Alabama.

A week ago, Alabama and Clemson were Fleming's top two schools, but Wiltfong's prediction indicates the Tide may have separated themselves from the pack.

Rivals300 currently has Fleming as the top-ranked interior offensive lineman in the ‘28 class, and the 19th-ranked prospect overall. With that, there is certainly room for Fleming to boost his status to a five-star recruit.

When you watch the tape on Fleming, he’s a clear bruiser with a mean streak, a trait that Alabama looks for in its offensive linemen.

One of the Tide’s first recruits was offensive tackle Michael Carroll, who many praised for the edge he plays with. As a freshman, Carroll would get plenty of starter reps, including starting in the College Football Playoffs.

Additionally, Fleming is quick on his feet, which could be intriguing should the coaching staff opt to put him on the outside.

Alabama has made a clear emphasis on the ‘28 class, with seven total commits.

This was to be expected, as head coach Kalen DeBoer made it clear that Alabama wasn’t going to go “big game hunting” in the 2027 class.

The priority for the Crimson Tide was to continue to develop the players that they had brought in over the past two seasons.

From the 2025 and 2026 class, only one player had entered the transfer portal – that being offensive lineman Micah DeBose, who went to Vanderbilt.

Recruiting through the high school pipeline, as well as retaining players, has been a crucial point of emphasis for Alabama’s staff. On National Signing Day, General Manager Courtney Morgan explained how the program uses their NIL funds.

Landing Fleming would further validate Alabama's emphasis on building its program through high school recruiting and player development.

Recruiting battles are rarely over this early, but Alabama has generated significant momentum with Fleming and appears to be in prime position to land one of the top offensive linemen in the 2028 cycle.
