Oregon Faces Familiar Foe in Pursuit of 2028 Four-Star EDGE

Fresh off a strong showing in the 2027 cycle, the Oregon Ducks have already begun laying the groundwork for their 2028 class.

Dan Lanning and his staff already have their hats in several rings, though they've come up short on a handful of early targets.

While Oregon has missed on those early targets, it's still far too early in the 2028 cycle to draw conclusions about the class.

Which brings us to four-star EDGE rusher Kameron McGee, a player that the Ducks have been aggressive in their pursuit for.

A rising junior at Brother Rice in Chicago, McGee already has a visit locked in with Georgia on October 17, but also is intrigued at the possibility of playing at Miami, Oregon, and Notre Dame.

For McGee, the Oregon brand immediately stood out as a factor when determining where he wants to play.

“What stands out about Oregon is they play in the Big Ten,” McGee said. “Elite resources, coaches are smart, strong Nike connections.”

The problem that Oregon faces is that it goes head-to-head once again with Notre Dame.

If you remember, the Ducks were in the final two for defensive lineman, Brayden Parks, who coincidentally goes to Brother Rice like McGee.

Along with McGee, Notre Dame beat out the Ducks for wide receiver Jackson Coleman back in early May.

And most recently, the Ducks lost out on another recruit to Notre Dame with the commitment of EDGE rusher, Darieon Prescott.

As of right now, McGee has stated that the Irish are at the front of the line, citing the close proximity to home, top coaching staff, and the education being prime factors.

Lanning, along with defensive coordinator Chris Hampton, have had a lot of success recruiting EDGE rushers in the past two classes. Oregon recently signed Anthony “Tank” Jones, by prying him away from Alabama, as well as Prince Tavizon. In 2027, five-star EDGE Rashad Streets headlines the class.

There’s no doubt that Oregon has made major steps in the recruiting process for the 2028 class, but other programs have already jumped the gun.

Along with Notre Dame, the only other schools that have commitments in 2028 are Ohio State, Alabama, and Penn State.

Oregon's track record under Lanning suggests the Ducks will remain firmly in the mix as McGee's recruitment continues. For now, however, Notre Dame appears to hold the early advantage.
