5 flip targets for Oregon along the defensive line in the 2027 class

Despite putting together a top-5 class in the country after a red-hot start to the month, the Oregon Ducks have missed in one critical spot on the recruiting trail. The interior of the defensive line could still use some help.

The Ducks have already secured commitments from four-star recruits Zane Rowe and Cam Pritchett, as well as three-star Achilles Reyna, but the class could still use another disruptor in the middle. Tony Tuioti and Dan Lanning have been recruited well, both on the edge and on the interior of the defensive line, so the possibility for a big flip in the fall is in play.

Four-star Brayden Parks was the most recent miss for the Ducks in the 2027 class, as he opted to stay close to home and commit to Notre Dame. Parks was the last big-name defensive lineman to come off the board, so if the Ducks want to take a big swing, it will have to come in the form of a flip, which means getting recruits back on campus for a gameday visit this fall.

Calling out a flip is a true longshot, especially when doing so before fall camp has even started. We will get a better idea of who the Ducks are interested in and which recruits are still fairly open to other programs when gameday visits are announced. With that in mind, let's take a look at five committed defensive linemen who the Ducks could target for a flip before signing day.

Alifeleti Tuihalamaka (USC commit)

Tuihalamaka is one of the true longshots I will mention here, but there are some reasons to believe Oregon could get involved. The Ducks will play USC early in the season and get a chance to make a big impression again in the West Coast recruiting rivalry, this time in Los Angeles. The Ducks did pursue Tuihalamaka before he committed to the Trojans in early May. Oregon landed Davon Benjamin out of Oaks Christian last year, so there is some familiarity with the program. Maybe Tuihalamaka is next. Again, a bit of a longer shot here, but worth the fight if the Ducks do pursue this route.

Brayden Parks (Notre Dame commit)

He just committed, but why should that stop the Ducks from continuing their pursuit? Parks recently chose Notre Dame over Oregon, but the feelings toward Oregon are still fresh. Even after a strong official visit to South Bend, Parks still took his official visit to Eugene, and it couldn't have gone any better. Being close to his family may have played a part in the decision for the Chicagoland star, but as Oregon's influence in the Midwest continues to grow, maybe the Ducks can force a change of heart down the line. I would still expect the Ducks to try and get Parks on campus this season.

George Toia (UCLA commit)

Oregon made a big push for Toia early in the process, but after he transferred from Fontana High School in California to Byron Nelson High School in Texas for his junior year, the Ducks did lose some steam in the race. Toia is committed to UCLA, where his brother, Jay, is entering his senior season. However, the Ducks could get back in the race for Toia if they can convince him to take a visit to Eugene this fall, maybe even when Oregon hosts UCLA in October. Oregon was very interested in Toia before he committed, so he is a logical target for the Ducks to turn back to if they want to flip him.

Kasi Currie (Texas commit)

Currie was another player the Ducks recruited heavily out of California, alongside Sierra Canyon teammate Marcus Fakatou. Currie enjoyed his unofficial visit to Eugene for the spring game and made plans to return in June for an official visit, but he never made it back. The same weekend he was scheduled to return to Oregon, Currie committed to Texas and canceled the visit. The Ducks would have to put together a fairly lucrative NIL package to sway Currie away from the Longhorns, as he is currently valued around $400,000. Ohio State was a runner-up for Currie as well before his commitment, so if Currie does make any gameday visits outside of Texas, the Buckeyes might get involved as well.

Jalen Brewster (Texas Tech commit)

This is probably the biggest longshot out there. Once upon a time, the Ducks were very involved in the race for Brewster, the No. 1 player in the 2027 class. He is locked in with Texas Tech, but that commitment has been tested by LSU this summer. If the Tigers can pull Brewster to Baton Rouge for a visit, that should open the door for the Ducks to make a play as a finalist in the initial recruitment. Like Curries, Brewster will command a haul in terms of NIL money, with a $1 million valuation, according to On3. If the opportunity opens up to snag the top player in the class, the Ducks might have to look for a way to get involved. We've seen Lanning move quickly to close out recruitments near signing day, and this is a recruitment that could certainly come down to the last minute.
