Auburn football has entered a tight race alongside two Big Ten powers for one of the top defensive players from the 2028 recruiting cycle.
Chad Simmons of Rivals reports that Auburn has made a massive jump in the recruitment of five-star EDGE rusher Tyzon Swann. The recent move puts Auburn in a tight battle with Ohio State and Penn State for the talented Maryland pass rusher as the recruitment of 2028 players heats up.
Swann has visited Auburn twice, according to Simmons, despite being just a rising 11th grader. He tells Simmons that he values relationships, and that has been the driving force in Auburn's recruitment of Swann.
“Auburn is very family-oriented," Swann said. "They’re very helpful and caring people who want you to succeed no matter what.”
Swann is one of the 2028 recruiting cycle's top players. Already rated a five-star by Rivals Industry Rankings, Swann is the No. 1 player from Maryland and the No. 2 EDGE rusher from the class. According to the latest forecast from Rivals, Penn State is the favorite to land Swann with a 21% chance, followed by Ohio State at 13% and Auburn at 10%.
However, it is still very early in the 2028 recruiting cycle, and Auburn will have plenty of time to win him over and to expand its Maryland pipeline.
Auburn has zero commitments for its 2028 class, but is in a great position to ultimately land quality talent from the cycle, including in-state quarterback Sam Sollie.
