Northwestern head coach David Braun took the podium in Chicago brimming with excitement, joined by three standout player representatives: running back Caleb Komolafe, safety Robert Fitzgerald, and wide receiver Griffin Wilde.
Braun highlighted Fitzgerald's emergence as a premier throwback safety and praised Wilde's seamless transition from the FCS level to elite Big Ten competition.
Looking at the program at a macro level, Braun declared that the Wildcats are entering an entirely new era. Backed by strong institutional leadership from university president Mung Chiang, athletic director Mark Jackson, and visionary stadium investments from Pat Ryan Jr. and the Ryan family, Braun outlined soaring goals for the program.
"Big Ten Championship; why not us? Host a College Football Playoff game at New Ryan Field; why not us? Aspire to chase down a National Championship; why not us?" Braun said.
A major pillar of Braun's optimism stems from exceptional roster retention, with 88 percent of eligible returning players returning to Evanston for the 2026 campaign.

Furthermore, Northwestern made massive splash hires on the coaching staff, bringing in legendary offensive mind Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator, retaining defensive mastermind Tim McGarigle, and adding Paul Creighton to lead special teams.
Discussing the addition of Chip Kelly, Braun noted, "Ultimately, he's just bringing so much—just such a wealth of experience… hiring Chip Kelly is a transformative change. It's his experience, it's his outside-the-box thinking, it's his understanding of how we can position our guys to suit their strengths within the offense."
Braun also expressed immense anticipation for the opening of New Ryan Field, describing the state-of-the-art venue as a "new-age Roman Coliseum" with incredible fan intimacy and acoustics.
Addressing the quarterback room, Braun noted that the arrival of transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles has created fierce, high-level competition alongside returning depth. Concluding his remarks, Braun issued a direct challenge to the student body and the greater Chicagoland community:
"It's my job to put the best team in that stadium," Braun said. "But it's your job… to turn New Ryan Field into the best home field advantage in all of college football."
