Safety Seth Williams commits to Georgia football. What he brings to Bulldogs

Seth Williams narrowed his choices down to two schools that wanted the four-star safety to jump aboard their 2027 recruiting classes and had racked his brain to make a decision.

He revealed it Friday evening, July 31, when the recruit from Lakeside High in Atlanta announced his commitment to Georgia football over Clemson.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder told the Athens Banner-Herald that Bulldog coaches like his size, position flexibility and ball skills.

“I feel like I have some of the best ball skills in the country and they do, too,” Williams said. “Flexibility to play different positions. I can make tackles in the box, I can make tackles in the open field. I play the ball anywhere on the field, I have a great range. A lot of the stuff you would see in a typical safety. I just do it a little bit better.”

Williams, who announced his decision on Rivals YouTube channel, is ranked the nation’s No. 37 safety, the No. 45 prospect in Georgia and the No. 409 player overall by the 247Sports Composite.

He had 81 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble last season to go along with 10 catches for 315 yards and four touchdowns for a team that went 3-7.

Williams transferred to Lakeside from Jackson High before his junior season and got exposure playing on Cam Newton’s 7-on-7 team.

“He’s a rangy kid,” Lakeside coach Morris Starr told the Banner-Herald. “I think he’s going to cover a lot of ground. He has a good ability to run and adjust to the ball in the air. He’ll make a lot of plays. He’s also a downhill kid if it’s a running play. He comes up and is physical. Pretty good size, strong in the weight room, and that’s only going to get amplified when he gets into a college program and eats the meals that they eat and the protein.”

Williams, Georgia’s 20th commitment in this class, was previously committed to Clemson after pledging on March 24 but backed off that on April 9. He pushed back a July 3 announcement until Friday.

“It’s definitely been a different process,” Williams said. “People don’t go through this on the regular.”

Said Starr, “I know it’s been hard because he’s trying to see what makes everyone so different and one better than the other.”

Williams has kept in touch with Georgia safeties coach Travaris Robinson, nickels/stars coach Andrew Thacker, defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann as well as coach Kirby Smart.

“They know he’s a kid with a bunch of upside, some untapped things,” Starr said.

One factor, Starr said, in Georgia’s favor is the proximity to Atlanta allows his family to see him easier.

Williams is the second defensive back commitment in Georgia’s class, joining four-star safety Adryan Cole from Douglas County.
