The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 37 days away.

As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.

Here is a look at the past and present of No. 37 at LSU:

No. 37 – CB Craig Walton Jr.

Walton is going into his fourth year on the team as a walk-on. He's done a great job as a walk-on, and has actually worked his way onto the field in three different games as a special teamer.

The New Jersey native was a strong player in high school, but wasn't recruited and opted to go to the Tigers and use the connections that come with it. He has gone home and hosted community events.

While walk-ons don't get the most shine, they are important in getting the team prepared to play week in and week out. Some walk-ons also earn their way to a scholarship with hard work and dedication.

A Former Player Who Wore No. 37

CB Tommy Casanova (1969-1971)

Casanova, who is currently serving in the Louisiana Senate, was a star football player back in his college days. He made it to three different All-SEC teams and was twice voted a consensus All-American. He played all over the field, mostly as a defensive back, but he also played a little bit of offense at running back. His No. 37 jersey is retired.

He was clearly just an elite athlete for the time and a great player. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals and picked up 17 interceptions and three Pro Bowl nods, before quitting football to get his medical degree. Unheard of now, but it's a decision that clearly worked out for him with a long and successful life.

Joe Burrow was the one to revitalize the quarterback position at LSU, but Danny Etling also had his moments right before. This was a picture-perfect pass to open the scoring in a game that they would go on to win 23-20, so that early offense was crucial. This was also the first career touchdown reception for DJ Chark, who needs no introduction for Tigers fans.
