DeAndre Hopkins joins Georgia Tech staff as assistant coach

DeAndre Hopkins knows a thing or two about coming down with the football in tight quarters and will put his playing career on hold for now.

The three-time First-Team All-Pro and Georgia Techannounced Friday that he has joined the Yellow Jackets football program as an assistant wide receivers coach.

“DeAndre is one of the greatest receivers of all-time, but his value to our program goes far beyond that,” Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key said. “He has an exceptional knowledge of what we’re doing on offense due to his long relationship with (offensive coordinator) George Godsey and strong familiarity with the ACC, but most importantly, he’s a leader of men that I’m very excited for our players to be around, on and off the field.”

The star wideout appears to remain hopeful that another NFL opportunity will come along after 13 years in the league, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with his Georgia Tech duties if another chance does arise.

Hopkins spent three seasons playing under Godsey during their Houston Texans days.
