Marcel Reed Labelled 'Unpredictable' Ahead of Pivotal Aggies Season

Texas A&M has high hopes for its upcoming campaign following a return to relevance in the prior season.

The Aggies steamrolled most of their slate before dropping a rivalry matchup to Texas to close the regular season and then suffered a heartbreaker to Miami in the opening round of the College Football Playoff to close out the full year.

With the foundation set, this latest group is ready to take the next step with a return to the sport's biggest stage the first item on the checklist.

For these goals to come to fruition there is a one Aggie that needs to step up to the plate, junior quarterback Marcel Reed.

Reed continued a strong stretch under center after bursting onto the scene as a true freshman two years ago. Although he was a big reason for Texas A&M hitting the spotlight once again, he was also partly responsible for some of its woes.

Interceptions and other blunders mired his brighter moments and showed the lessons the phenomenal young talent still had to learn while in charge of a program of that caliber.

The high-and-low nature has some feeling unsure how much stock to put in Reed and by extension the Aggies heading into the season.

This included On3 commentator Andy Staples, who was asked to provide a one-word preview for each quarterback in the SEC by another of the network's shows, Crain & Cone.

His word for Reed? Unpredictable.

Is the diagnosis slightly harsh? Perhaps. But is their merit to his simple answer? Based on the aforementioned moments from last years, there is a case for agreement.

The talent is definitely there for Reed, as he has showcased time after time in his starts for the Aggies. But the costly mistakes make it harder to focus on the positives.

In his pursuit to shake these narratives surrounding his abilities to be one of the conference's, and nation's, premier passers, Reed will have to do so without offensive coordinator Collin Klein after he parted ways to lead his alma mater, K-State.

However, exceptional wide receiver Mario Craver will be back again for the Aggies, as well as several other targets that will provide Reed more than enough targets to truly air it out.

Not to mention, Reed is a threat using his legs to evade pressure or pick up yards on designed runs of his own.

All that to say, the pressure is on for Reed ahead of a make-or-break year for the Aggies, but the "unpredictable" quarterback has the chance to eliminate all doubts.
