Why Florida Welcomed a Raw Defensive Line Prospect Early

The Florida Gators will be getting a last minute addition to fall camp, after 2027 DL commit Stive-Bentley Keumajou reclassified for 2026.
Keumajou made his decision to enter the 2026 class on July 31, a full week before Florida’s fall camp begins on August 5.
The move certainly raised a few eyebrows.
Not because of the belief in the player, but Keumajou is still a very raw prospect. Originally from England, he had only been playing football for two years at Coral Gables.
One would have to think another year in high school would only benefit the player.
Florida apparently disagrees.
The Gators have kept a keen eye on Keumajou since they made an offer to him earlier this year, and have become increasingly impressed.
Keumajou was a quick riser in the 2027 class, with both Auburn and Miami also gunning for him. Yet, Florida’s aggressive pursuit was too enticing for the lineman.
Florida defensive line coach Gerald Chatman was the catalyst behind the pursuit of Keumajou, quickly getting the rest of the Gators staff involved in recruiting him to Gainesville.
"I remember he flew down to come see me, and that's when I knew he really wanted me. Every day, he called me," Keumajou said. "The whole coaching staff from the d-line department, Coach [Jeremy] Patterson, Coach [Joe] Hamilton, all the coaches. I have a good relationship with all of them."
It must’ve been a whirlwind for someone who hasn’t played the game for a long time, but the reclassification tells us one thing.
It was clear Keumajou was a priority for Florida, and the opportunity to begin his college development sooner rather than later likely factored into the equation.
With an already stacked defensive line room, Keumajou will have the opportunity to learn from older, more experienced players as he develops.
After two years of playing the game, Keumajou picked up the game rather quickly. No ordinary player would be heavily sought after by power conference programs if he hadn’t.
But a finished product? He’s far from it.
The ability to have a front row seat to some of the nation’s best prospects, and getting consistent practice reps can only prove beneficial to his overall development.
Despite reclassifying, it’s unlikely we’ll see Keumajou suit up for the Gators this season.
But for a player who has only been playing football for two years, arriving in Gainesville early gives him a head start on the developmental process. Florida is betting that extra time in the program will pay dividends down the road.
