The partnership brings together influential Black-owned media brands, including ESSENCE, REVOLT, AFROPUNK and 3BLACKDOT, while maintaining independent operations.
Two of the most influential names in Black-owned media are joining forces in a move aimed at strengthening their reach and influence. ESSENCE Ventures has made a strategic investment in Offscript Worldwide, the parent company of REVOLT, creating new opportunities for Black-owned media, creators and advertisers.
As reported by Businesswire, Black-owned media has long shaped American culture while often receiving a fraction of the investment given to mainstream outlets. This new partnership signals a different approach. ESSENCE Ventures, the investment arm of Sundial Media & Technology Group, announced a strategic investment in Offscript Worldwide, the parent company of REVOLT, REVOLT Sports, 3BLACKDOT and the Offscript Creator Network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The investment gives ESSENCE Ventures a minority stake in Revolt New Media Holdings LLC. Sundial founder and chairman Richelieu Dennis will also join the company’s board.
Both organizations will continue operating independently. REVOLT and Offscript Worldwide will remain under CEO Detavio Samuels, while the partnership focuses on expanding commercial opportunities. Combined, the two portfolios bring together some of the most recognizable Black-owned media brands, including ESSENCE, REVOLT, AFROPUNK, Girls United, Refinery29, Beautycon and 3BLACKDOT.
The announcement comes as media companies increasingly compete for audience attention in an AI-driven landscape. Executives from both companies said authentic storytelling, trusted brands and real-world experiences remain their competitive advantage.
“For generations, Black-owned media has punched above its weight,” Sundial Media & Technology Group CEO Kirk McDonald said. He added that the partnership gives advertisers greater access to communities shaping culture.
REVOLT CEO Detavio Samuels echoed that Black-owned media goes far beyond the Black community. “Black-owned media has never meant a Black-only audience… For advertisers, that’s not a niche buy. That’s access to culture itself.” The companies also pointed to the 2026 ESSENCE Festival of Culture, which attracted approximately 500,000 attendees.
