The Auburn Tigers and head coach Alex Golesh are quickly gaining ground on one of the state's top linebackers from the 2028 recruiting cycle.

As the 2028 recruiting cycle begins to heat up, five-star linebacker Nehemiah McCrary is focused on three schools according to 247Sports, including the Auburn Tigers. Auburn is now in a three-team race with in-state rival Alabama and SEC foe Florida for the No. 2 linebacker from the 2028 class.

The 6-3, 240-pound star from Maplesville High School in Maplesville, Alabama is a two-way player for the small high school, serving as a bruising running back in addition to his linebacker duties. He rushed for over 1,000 yards over the last two seasons and has scored 29 touchdowns. As a defender, McCrary has logged 56 tackles with two sacks in his young career.

Auburn football is in the mix for three key members of the 2028 recruiting class. In addition to McCrary, Auburn is in good standing with Gadsden City quarterback Sam Sollie ahead of his Aug. 8 commitment date, and Maryland EDGE Tyzon Swann.

McCrary is the nation's No. 2 linebacker and the No. 1 player from Alabama for the 2028 cycle according to 247Sports.
