Vanderbilt football‘s late comeback attempt came up short on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the Commodores falling to Texas 34-31.

No. 11 Vanderbilt (7-2, 3-2 SEC) struggled to contain Texas’ offense, which has been one of the worst in the SEC this season but has come alive in the last two weeks. Arch Manning was an issue for Vandy, passing for 328 yards with three touchdowns.

Vanderbilt, aiming to reach its first-ever College Football Playoff, doesn’t have much room for error the rest of the way, as it has two losses with remaining games against Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Diego Pavia gave a valiant effort in the second half, finishing the game with 365 passing yards and three touchdowns, along with 43 rushing yards and a score. Texas was in complete control for the entirety of the game, although Vanderbilt scored 21 unanswered in the fourth quarter.

Vanderbilt is set to fall a few spots in the US LBM Coaches Poll after its loss, although its season goals are still within reach.

Here’s a look at where Vandy could fall in the poll after its Week 10 loss to Texas.

Vanderbilt football rankings: Where will Commodores fall in top 25?

Vanderbilt should stay firmly inside the top 20 after its road loss to Texas. The Commodores may be in the same group as multiple other SEC teams.

Two-loss Oklahoma fell from No. 11 to No. 18, which is one spot ahead of Texas, in Week 9 after its loss to Ole Miss. Tennessee, another two-loss SEC team, is currently ranked No. 14.

Vanderbilt, Texas and the winner of Tennessee-Oklahoma are all likely to be in the mid-teens, potentially all grouped together, in the top 25.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Coaches compare a two-loss Vanderbilt to one-loss Big 12 programs Texas Tech and Cincinnati or one-loss ACC teams Virginia and Louisville.
