Nebraska quarterback named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list

Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea was named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list on Monday morning. The Maxwell Award is given to the college football player of the year and was first given out in 1937.

Only one Husker player has won the Maxwell Award. Running back Mike Rozier won the honor in 1983.

Colandrea is coming off a spectacular season with UNLV, during which he won the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year Award. He threw for 3,459 yards, 23 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also added 649 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

The upperclassman will be tasked with stabilizing the Huskers' quarterback room and providing a spark on offense. It will be fascinating to see how he fits in the Huskers' offense moving forward.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 10, 2026, while the three finalists will be unveiled November 24, 2026. The winner will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 10, 2026.
