The Oklahoma Sooners' passing game was a tale of two seasons in 2026. In the first four games of the year, John Mateer was looking like a Heisman candidate, and the passing game looked good. After injuring his thumb against Auburn, the passing game took a sharp nosedive for the next couple of months. But that didn't stop a player like Isaiah Sategna from having a huge impact.

Sategna's speed was on full display, picking up big yardage and creating memorable moments as the Sooners fought and clawed offensively to score touchdowns over the final few weeks of the season. The All-SEC second-team selection and Oklahoma's leading receiver from a season ago is back to build on a breakout 2025 campaign. Last season, Sategna caught 67 balls for 965 yards and eight touchdowns. It's the most receiving yards for a Sooner since Drake Stoops led the team with 962 back in 2023.

And this year, it looks like Sategna and Mateer have more help in the passing game.

The Sooners brought back JerMichael Carter, a transfer in the 2025 offseason who simply made plays every time they threw the ball his way a season ago. Oklahoma also returns young up-and-coming stars Manny Choice and Elijah Thomas. But because Jim Nagy and Brent Venables knew they needed to find definitive answers at wide receiver for Mateer in 2026, they made some moves in the portal to raise the talent level in the wide receiver room.

Enter Trell Harris (Virginia), Parker Livingstone (Texas), and Mackenzie Alleyne (Washington State).

Harris was an All-ACC performer last year for the Cavaliers and the favorite target of former Oklahoma quarterback Chandler Morris. He led a Virginia offense that averaged 30 points per game with 59 receptions for 847 yards and five touchdowns. Though he's been out since the spring, he's been running routes full speed during offseason training and should be ready to go for Week 1. He's an experienced receiver with the ability to win at all levels of the passing game.

Livingstone made waves when he crossed the Red River in the transfer portal, but he'll make an even bigger splash on the football field. His 6-foot-4 frame provides Mateer with a big target in the intermediate passing game. Livingstone has a great feel for where to sit in zone coverage and has the size and strength to beat press-man off the line of scrimmage. As a redshirt freshman for the Longhorns a season ago, Livingstone had 29 receptions for 516 yards and six touchdowns, leading the way with an average of 17.4 yards per reception, among players with double-digit catches.

Then there's Alleyne, who didn't play much a season ago for Washington State, but made an impact in the Cougars' bowl win over Utah State with three receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. He created a lot of buzz in spring ball, taking advantage of Harris' absence. He'll be competing for snaps with Carter, Thomas, and Choice but could play a role for the Sooners' offense this season.

Oklahoma also has a trio of intriguing true freshmen in former four-star wide receivers Jayden Petit, Daniel Odom, and Jahsiear Rogers. Though Petit and Odom had quiet springs, they have tremendous upside, which could lead to opportunities this fall with the Sooners' offense. Rogers had a strong spring game performance and was the standout player for the second-team offense against Oklahoma's first-team defense.

After losing Deion Burks, Keontez Lewis, and Javonnie Gibson in the offseason, the Sooners are in better shape at wide receiver than they were a year ago. Oklahoma is deeper with experienced Power Four talent and has a corps of impressive young players.

Oklahoma has a group that could lead to an explosive season in the passing game.
