Preseason College Football Coaches Poll forecasts intriguing season

USA TODAY officially released the preseason coaches’ top 25 poll on Tuesday.

Ohio State leads the field in the top spot, followed by Oregon, Georgia, Texas, and Notre Dame. OSU, Oregon, and Georgia all made the CFP last season, while Texas and Notre Dame missed out.

Indiana comes in at the sixth spot after winning its first college football national title this past season. Even though the program is outside the top five, it’s still one of the top contenders to win it again this season.

About the Coaches Poll

“The US LBM Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Football Bowl Subdivision schools,” USA TODAY writes. “The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.”
