The first major poll of the 2026 season is out! USA TODAY Sports has released the Preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 4 to start the year. Ohio State, the Longhorns Week 2 opponent, will begin the year at No. 1. Oregon and Georgia sit just ahead of the Horns. Notre Dame rounds out the top five.

Last year, Texas was the preseason No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports poll. It was the first time Texas had ever been the preseason No. 1 in the coaches poll. But after a Week 1 loss at Ohio State, UT never was ranked No. 1 again in 2025 and in fact missed the college football playoff.

Rivals Texas A&M and Oklahoma are both in the top ten, at No. 8 and No. 9 respectively. The SEC has nine teams in the initial coaches poll. The Big Ten lands eight teams in the poll, including the top two. TheBig 12 has four ranked teams and the ACC lands three teams in the preseason poll.
