Two ESPN experts think Byrum Brown will shine at Auburn

Regional and national media believe Auburn has a chance to show improvement under new head coach Alex Golesh in his first year. Add Scott Van Pelt and Stanford Steve to that list.

On the latest episode of the SVPod, both Van Pelt and Steve Coughlin, otherwise known as "Stanford Steve," talked about how people shouldn't sleep on Auburn. A main reason for that is because of quarterback Byrum Brown.

"He's got his quarterback that feels like no one's talking about," Stanford Steve said. They discussed and compared Brown to Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and his jump from division 2 to the SEC. They compared that leap to the one Brown will make going from the American to the SEC.

Last season for the Rebels, Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards and 22 interceptions with just three interceptions. He led Ole Miss to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff and was a few plays away from defeating Miami.

"So this idea that Byrum Brown is going to have trouble adjusting from the American to the SEC, seeing what he did at that level, I'll take my chances with that kid," added Stanford Steve.

The two also talked about the fact that Auburn will have continuity with Brown running the same system as he did at South Florida will be a factor. Brown last season threw for 3,158 yards and rushed for 1,008 yards with a total of 42 touchdowns. He is joined by his offensive coordinator, Joel Gordon, and several receivers from South Florida.
