The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day are underway in the 2026 college football. With the season opener scheduled for early September, the pressure is on for the team to get ready to play football.
On September 5, the Buckeyes are set to face off against the Ball State Cardinals at Ohio Stadium. After that season opener, they will hit the road for a major showdown against the Texas Longhorns.
With that being said, Ohio State is going to need everyone ready to go. An early-season loss can come back to haunt a team when it comes to the College Football Playoff.
Keeping that in mind, the Buckeyes have had an early setback. Day and the coaching staff have handed down punishment to one of the team’s top freshman playmakers to begin camp.

As shared in a report by Dave Biddle of Bucknuts, Legend Bey has been suspended from practice due to a violation of team rules.
“Ohio State freshman RB Legend Bey did not practice today due to a violation of team rules. Likely won’t practice tomorrow,” Biddle wrote.
“Then will most assuredly be back for Saturday’s practice. I’m told it’s nothing too serious, hence him only missing two days (and not two weeks or something).”
Thankfully, the issue isn’t something that sounds very serious. However, it’s a situation worth monitoring. Bey may not be a starter as a freshman, as Bo Jackson is going to be the team’s starting running back, but he has big-time playmaking skills.
Who Is Legend Bey & What Are His Future Prospects?
Bey is one of the more entertaining young playmakers coming into college football this season. Coming out of high school, he was a quarterback who is now changing to running back at Ohio State.
In the recruiting class of 2026, Bey was ranked as the No. 6 athlete in the class. He was also given the ranking of being the No. 151 overall prospect in the nation and was a four-star recruit.
To land Bey’s commitment, the Buckeyes beat out other top-tier programs like Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas.
Looking to the future, Bey has star caliber potential. He is a pure playmaker with the football in his hands. There is even a chance that he could make some kind of impact this season as a freshman.
Hopefully, the early issues and team rule violations are behind him. Ohio State’s light punishment is a simple warning to the young running back. Now, it’s up to him to get back on track and work his way into a role during his freshman season.
