Kirk Herbstreit Is Already Annoying Fans Before 2026 College Football Season

The college football season is exactly 23 days away, and yet, fans are already annoyed with ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit.
When it comes to his knowledge of the sport, Herbstreit is one of the best in the business. He's been an analyst for "College GameDay" since August 1996 and has been the network's lead color commentator since 2006. The former Ohio State quarterback has already won five individual Sports Emmy Awards.
So why are fans at odds with Herbstreit? Well, they believe he's been parading his dog, Peter, around "College GameDay" a bit too often. And with that being said, Herbstreit shared new content this week that involves Peter.
Herbstreit posted a video of him petting his golden retriever along with the caption: "Get some sleep while you can Peter…football season is almost here."
Shortly after Herbstreit shared this video, college football fans voiced their displeasure with him.
"Good grief enough with the dog. Love mine too but this has gotten silly," one fan commented.
"Already sick of this [expletive]," a second fan replied.
"Kirk replaced [Lee] Corso with a dog and I hate him for it," another fan wrote.
"I didn’t know Herbstreit had a dog," a social media user sarcastically replied. "Why didn’t anybody ever mention this?"

Who'll be on "College GameDay" this year?
As per usual, Herbstreit will remain the main analyst on "College GameDay." He'll be joined by Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban.
ESPN's "College GameDay" will kick off its 40th season in Baton Rouge to preview a showdown between Clemson and LSU. One week later, the crew will head over to Austin to cover a matchup between Ohio State and Texas.
