Football talk: Behind Enemy Lines with UCLA Wire editor Dylan McNeill

We cover USC here at Trojans Wire. We also cover the Big Ten. Within the umbrella of Big Ten coverage is our rival and Los Angeles neighbor at UCLA. We aren't going to become UCLA Wire for the next several days, but we are going to check in on what the Bruins are doing. We asked UCLA Wire editor Dylan McNeill several questions about the Bruin football program. In this first installment, we asked McNeill where UCLA-USC football games should be played when the Bruins host:

"The answer has got to be the Rose Bowl, at least for the foreseeable future," McNeill told us. "UCLA should do their due-diligence about stadium options for the program moving forward, but if it’s not a stadium on/near campus then why should the team move at all? A move to SoFi Stadium wouldn’t suddenly solve the team’s attendance issues but a return to playing quality football might.  SoFi Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility but the thought of USC-UCLA playing there is jarring nonetheless. The game is meant to be played on only two fields, at the Rose Bowl and at the L.A. Coliseum, so we should appreciate it while we have it."

McNeill speaks for traditionalists and purists who cherished the Pac-10 and the longstanding tradition of the Rose Bowl. There really is no need to move games to SoFi Stadium. McNeill accurately points out that the move won't solve UCLA football's attendance problem. The Trojans frankly hope attendance doesn't rise, because that will mean UCLA will remain irrelevant.
