Ranking every Big 12 team’s recruiting class by blue-chip percentage

Any and all headlines surrounding the Big 12 on the recruiting front have included Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are the only team in the conference that currently has a top-30 class in the 2027 Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Beyond TTU, just four other Big 12 teams — Kansas State, Colorado, West Virginia and Utah — have a class that ranks inside the top 50. It’s tough sledding throughout the league — which remains up for grabs on the field entering this fall.

Texas Tech is the only Big 12 program that has a five-star commit in its 2027 class. Seven other teams in the league have at least two blue-chip commitments this cycle, as of Aug. 7. Rivals takes a look at the Big 12 classes that rank the highest based off blue-chip (four and five-star) commit percentage:

Texas Tech — 71%

The No. 1 prospect in the nation, Five-Star Plus+ DL Jalen Brewster, has been committed to the Red Raiders since October and he remains in the mix despite LSU pushing hard for a flip. Five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney pledged in April. There’s an additional five top-100 commits headed to Lubbock, too, including No. 3 LB Jhadyn Nelson and No. 2 ATH Gideon Gash. In total, 12 of the 17 commits in Joey McGuire’s class are of the blue-chip variety. It’s far and away the top recruiting class in the Big 12.

Colorado — 25%

This time around, Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes have actually stacked a standard amount of commits at the high school level. CU, which has the No. 38 class nationally, has 20 total pledges, including five four-stars. The Buffs went to Nashville to land four-star QB Andre Adams, the No. 15 passer in the cycle, back in April. May brought commitments from four-star WR Jaiden Kelly-Murray, four-star safety Gabe Jenkins and four-star OT Li’Marcus Jones. Kelly-Murray is a former South Carolina commit.

BYU — 21%

Despite having just 14 total commits, three of whom are four-stars, BYU still has the third best blue-chip percentage in the league. Kalani Sitake is still in Provo and the Cougars still aim to contend this fall. The class headliner is four-star EDGE Uhila Wolfgramm, the No. 3 prospect in Utah. The Golden State has also brought a pair of big pledges from four-star WR Blake Wong and four-star DL Jeremiah Williams. The class sits at 60th nationally, which also ranks 11th in the Big 12.

Arizona State — 17%

The Sun Devils have made some noise on the trail under Kenny Dillingham, but they currently have the No. 62 class in the nation and just two four-star pledges. WR Nico Bland committed to Arizona State back in December and he’s now the No. 40 pass-catcher in the cycle. OT Jake Hildebrand is the No. 10 tackle and No. 3 prospect in Arizona. He pledged in May and could finish as a top-100 overall recruit when it’s all said and done.

Baylor — 17%

Baylor is another Big 12 program that still has plenty of room to add this fall. Dave Aranda and the Bears have 12 commits this cycle and two of them are in-state four-stars. Back in October, they landed four-star ATH Karece Hoyt, a do-it-all playmaker who’s now the No. 40 prospect in the Lone Star State. At the end of March, BU beat out Oklahoma State and Houston for four-star QB Luke Babin, a former Vanderbilt pledge. He’s the No. 25 passer in the cycle.
