Prayers and well wishes for veteran actor Samuel Monroe Jr. have continued since he was hospitalized earlier this year. Now the Californian, who starred in classics such as “Menace II Society,” “The Player’s Club” and “Tales From The Hood,” may wind up in a vegetative state due to the number of brain surgeries he’s endured.
According to his wife, Shawna Stewart, Monore had experienced more than 20 seizures back-to-back around July 30. The swelling around his brain had yet to subside and cerebrospinal fluid was leaking into the brain tissue. According to a report from TMZ, the actor has undergone three brain surgeries as a result of his various health issues. He had been placed on dialysis to regulate his kidney function. In May, things looked hopeful as he regained some motor skills and was alert, before things worsened.
“I really wish I had better news,” she informed the public via Facebook.
Since he was hospitalized in April, Monroe has had his body ravaged by MRSA pneumonia and meningitis. He had been placed on dialysis to regulate his kidney function. Considering that Monroe might remain in a vegetative state, his family has a difficult decision to make.
A GoFundMe was established for the actor in April by his stepdaughter, who wrote that should he recover from his health challenge, he will require near 24/7 care.
“In the event of Samuel regains consciousness and is removed from life support Samuel will require round-the-clock care for a year or more the doctors are saying,” Tayonna Stewart wrote. “We have faith and trust that God will carry him through this.”
She added, “As the whole family and friends do not want to think negative in the event that SAMUEL is taken home by God. Any funds raise would be put towards a proper and respectful celebration of life for his family, friends and fans to attend.”
