Kansas State's Avery Johnson Has Chance To Join Elite QBs In School History

Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson arrived in Manhattan with much fanfare.
He was a four-star recruit coming out of Maize High School in Wichita. Even with eventual national-championship winning quarterback Will Howard at the helm, fans were eagerly awaiting the Johnson era.
That finally came when Howard transferred to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes (where he won a title), allowing Johnson to start the bowl game. After a successful performance, Johnson followed that with a solid season in his first season as a starter during his sophomore year.
Many expected him to take a step forward the next season, but Johnson failed to progress last year as a junior. Some would even say he took somewhat of a step back when the Wildcats finished just 6-6 and chose not to play in a bowl game.
The positive is Johnson has one more chance to atone for last season. A strong performance could put him up there with the likes of his current coach, Collin Klein, and Michael Bishop as the top quarterbacks in school history.
With Klein already having a strong relationship with Johnson, this could be the year Johnson finally fully shines.
THREE PLAYERS MAKE 'WATCH' LISTS
They were three of the Kansas State Wildcats chosen to represent the school at Big 12 Media Days last month in Frisco, Texas, so naturally Joe Jackson, Avery Johnson and John Pastore are getting some preseason love.
All three made the cut for the national award "Watch" list at their respective positions. A senior quarterback, Johnson and Jackson (running back) were both on the Maxwell Award list. The honor is given annually to the nation's most outstanding player. Pastore was on the Outland Trophy list, which is reserved for the best offensive lineman in the country.
WILDCATS ADD NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENT FOR 2029
The Kansas State Wildcats athletic department recently announced a new addition to the football schedule for 2029.
The Wildcats will play host to Sam Houston State Bearkats Sept. 19 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. This is the third time the Wildcats will host the Bearkats.
