‘Debilitating’: Hunter Biden reveals update on President Biden’s cancer battle

In a wide-ranging interview with the BBC, the son of the 46th president also admitted that his pardon was “not good” for the country or his father’s legacy.
Former President Joe Biden’s battle with cancer has taken a bit of a turn, according to his son, Hunter.
Speaking with the BBC about several topics, including his thoughts on the pardon he received before his father left office, the younger Biden told “BBC Newsnight” host Paddy O’Connell that his father’s cancer had spread to his bones.
“The only thing that I say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more,” Biden said. “Because it’s not good.”
He continued, “The cancer has metastasized into his bones and further. It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating.”
However, Biden ensured his father remained active despite his current diagnosis.
“He’s still out there, he’s still doing his thing,” Hunter said. “He so believes in this country. My dad is, to this day, the center of our family. He’s the best father, the best husband, the best grandfather.”
The former president revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis in 2025. Prostate cancers are graded on the Gleason scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most aggressive. Biden was diagnosed with a Grade 9.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” his office said at the time. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Hunter Biden revealed that he and his stepmother, Jill Biden, were “shocked” by his father’s performance during an ill-fated 2024 Presidential debate with Donald Trump, which eventually led to calls for him not to seek re-election. He also defended his father’s granting him a pardon in December 2024, while admitting that it was “not good” for the country or his father’s legacy.
“Was it good for our Constitution? Was it good for the American people? Was it good for my dad’s legacy? No, on all counts,” he said. “It’s something that is easily criticized and for good reason, and I can’t pretend otherwise.”
He added, “I think that Donald Trump has proven to be exactly who my dad thought he was going to be, as it relates to the revenge and retribution that he would seek on his political enemies.”
Other individuals who received pardons before Biden left office included members of his close family, such as his brother James, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of Congress who took part in the investigation into the insurrection on January 6, 2021.
