Boom! Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team just landed their quarterback of the future. Five-Star prospect Christopher Vargas gave his verbal pledge to play in Columbus on Saturday afternoon.

There wasn't as much drama surrounding this commitment as several recruiting experts had logged crystal ball predictions for Vargas to pick the Buckeyes. Those predictions proved true as the Danvers, Massachusetts product chose the Scarlet and Gray over the likes of Penn State, Oregon, Virginia Tech, and USC.

Vargas is rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class and the No. 6 overall prospect according to 247Sports composite rankings. His commitment sets the Buckeyes up nicely in the foreseeable future. Assuming Julian Sayin leaves for the NFL after this season, most believe Tavien St. Clair will take the reins in 2027. St. Clair, a five-star prospect himself, would then have one to two years under center for OSU, which would presumably then lead to Vargas. Of course, Ohio State also has other quarterbacks in current freshman Luke Fahey and 2027 commit Brady Edmunds who will push for playing time as well. While nothing is guaranteed for the high school junior, it's nice for Day to have a stocked cupboard of talent to choose from.

The Buckeyes are off to a very strong start with the 2028 class. Vargas joins wide receiver Jett Harrison, edge rusher Jameer Whyce, and running back Elijah Newman-Hall to give Ohio State the No. 2-ranked class thus far. It's a huge get for Day and company, and the future continues to look bright in Columbus.
