The college football season is only weeks away from kickoff, with Week Zero set to get things started. Soon, the quest for the College Football Playoff will begin as teams like the Miami Hurricanes look to earn their way back into the tournament.
However, what is also upon us is a season of support from players’ family members, friends, and classmates. Parents and loved ones will travel across the country to support their favorite players and teams. Mark Fletcher Jr.’s mother, Linda, knows this all too well.

It was reported that Fletcher’s mother has a strong distaste for flying. Rather than take to the skies, Linda drove more than 17,000 miles to support her son at his games last season. Miami alumnus Michael Irvin heard about her dedication and decided to make her travels a little easier. Irvin gifted Linda her own customized RV so she can continue traveling to support her son. The heartwarming moment was captured on video and has since gone viral.
“Miami RB Mark Fletcher Jr.’s mom, Linda, travels by car to all of her son’s football games out of a strong dislike for flying. After driving over 17K miles last season, Michael Irvin is giving Linda a custom-wrapped RV to travel to all of her son’s games.” Front Office Sports reported on X.
Miami mother’s love knows no bounds
Stories like this remind us that college football is about more than what happens between the lines. These athletes have families and loved ones who sacrifice their own time and resources to help them pursue their dreams.

Linda’s commitment to Fletcher is a perfect example. Driving more than 17,000 miles in a single season is no small commitment, especially when she could have simply stayed home and watched her son play on television. Instead, she made the decision to be there in person as often as possible.
Now, thanks to Irvin, she has a much more comfortable way to make those trips. The custom RV should allow Linda to continue supporting Fletcher without having to deal with the flying that she dislikes so much. Or adding the miles to her personal vehicle and adding on a lodging expense.
Fletcher will enter the upcoming season with plenty of expectations on his shoulders, but he will also have one of his biggest supporters traveling alongside him. No matter where Miami plays, there is a good chance mom will find a way to be there.
That kind of support can mean everything to a young athlete. Football careers eventually come to an end, but the memories created with family along the way can last a lifetime. For Fletcher, having his mother make the journey to support him is something he will likely appreciate long after his playing days are over.
