Get to know the Kentucky football roster: No. 26 Andrew Purcell

There are now 26 days until the start of the 2026 Kentucky football season. As we get closer to the opener against Youngstown State, we are getting to know the players who will make up the team. Today, we're taking a look at No. 26, Andrew Purcell.

Purcell is a 5'10", 201 lb cornerback out of Enterprise, Alabama. He was a prize recruit in the 2025 class, rated four stars by 247Sports, coming in as their No. 173 overall player. Kentucky got his commitment over top programs like Miami, Indiana, Clemson, and the Georgia Bulldogs along with several others.

In his first season, Purcell didn't get on the field a lot, but he did play in two games, and recorded a couple of tackles. He got valuable experience playing against the Florida Gators as well as injuries mounted in the secondary.

Heading into the 2026 season, Purcell can be expected to find the field more often. Coach Will Stein has plenty of depth in the secondary, but Purell's versatility will aid him there. He could convert to safety, but he can play either spot.

Purcell has a terrific chance to become a starter, and a very good one, in the near future. This season, he'll get more of a chance to show it.
