Hoosiers Daily News: What Indiana football’s rise has meant for the athletic department

Football can be a rising tide that lifts all boats.

That was generally the idea when Indiana approached a coaching search following the ill-fated 2023 season, Tom Allen’s final year as head coach in Bloomington. The goal seemed to be finding, and hiring, a coach who could get Indiana into the postseason on a consistent basis.

That coach ended up being Curt Cignetti, that postseason ended up being the College Football Playoff and the Hoosiers ended up winning it all in 2025, just over two years after his hiring.

That rising tide has, in fact, lifted all boats, according to reporting from Scott Dochterman of The Athletic. Dochterman spoke with Indiana athletic director Scott Dolson last week and learned just how much the football program’s rise has meant to the athletic department as a whole.
