A recent report from USA TODAY lists Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield as well as his predecessor, Luke Fickell, as being on the hot seat entering the 2026 college football season.

Satterfield is listed under the "It's warm and could get hot" section, with reporter Blake Topmeyer opening with a witty line: "The temperature around Satterfield fluctuates like spring in the Midwest."

Cincinnati opened the 2025 season with a 7-1 record before losing its final five games, including the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Satterfield's teams are 24-26 in four seasons at UC. The Bearcats open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Boston College.

Fickell fell under the category "College football coaches on a scalding hot seat." He was a trendy name in the coaching carousel after leading the Bearcats to the 2021 College Football Playoff, ultimately taking the Wisconsin job.

His teams went 7-6 in each of his first two seasons in Madison but were 5-7 in 2024 (losing the final five games) and 4-8 in 2025. He has a 23-27 record at Wisconsin in four seasons. Wisconsin opens the 2026 season on Sept. 6 against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Its first Big Ten game is Sept. 26 at Penn State.
