Wednesday Dawg Bites Does Not Need Anyone’s Stockton Validation

Head-to-head, Gunner Stockton got the best of Arch Manning and Trinidad Chambliss last year in the regular season.

But you’d hardly know it from a lot of the preseason chatter. Thing is…that may suit Georgia just fine.

Granted, we’re in the final part of the offseason where you need stuff to talk about, such as the concept of how much should it even matter how NFL-ready a college quarterback is before the current season even begins.

That’s were this vignette via Dawgnation about Stockton comes into play from an anomymous SEC defensive coordinator to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

“He’s tough, so he can get some bull yards and take some big hits and all that stuff. I really like him, he’s a really good player. I don’t know if he’s an NFL specimen, but he’s a great college player.”

Here’s a quick newsflash: How good of an NFL prospect someone is – that’s nice to “go on the ‘gram” as the kids say, but it pales in terms of helping you win football games. Georgia has played a handful of quarterbacks the last few years in Will Levis, Anthony Richardson and Mitch Trubisky, all of whom did little to impress…but NFL GMs disagreed, and that’s just fine. Do you think Gator fans care that Tim Tebow didn’t translate well to the NFL? The likely answer is no.

Gunner Stockton may be polarizing…his play toward the end of last year indeed draws concern…but his exactly perfect for that this Georgia team needs, on and off the field.

Not sure I saw it coming with Florida doing a callback to Bill Stanfill wrecking its hopes and dreams in 1966, but it is appreciated, for sure.
