Cardi B says she’s taking the summer off and choosing rest over more music

The rapper says pressure from fans demanding more music does not motivate her and explains why she decided to take the summer off.
Cardi B says fan complaints about her music do not make her want to work harder; they make her want to stay in bed instead. The Grammy-winning rapper, who spent part of 2026 on her “Little Miss Drama” tour and expanding her business ventures, told fans she intentionally planned to take the summer off.
During a recent X Spaces conversation, Cardi addressed fans who have criticized her release schedule and questioned why some songs receive music videos while others do not.
Complex reported that Cardi said the criticism has the opposite effect from what fans may intend. Rather than motivating her to sit down and create more music, she said repeated complaints make her want to do nothing.
Cardi also explained that fans should not expect every release to receive the same visual treatment or aesthetic. She acknowledged that she has not been spending much time in the studio recently because she deliberately decided to give herself a break.
“I told myself I’d take the summer off,” she said, adding that she plans to enjoy herself and spend more time outside.
The 33-year-old rapper also said that when fans keep complaining about what she should be doing, she would rather stay in bed or spend time with her children.
Her frustration arrives after an especially busy stretch. Cardi released her second studio album, “Am I the Drama?,” in September 2025 after a seven-year wait between albums. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
She followed the release with her first solo headlining tour, the “Little Miss Drama Tour.” In March, TheGrio reported that she sold out Madison Square Garden and described feeling overwhelmed by the demand for tickets from relatives and friends.
Cardi has also expanded beyond music. Earlier this year, she launched Grow-Good, a haircare line inspired by the homemade treatments she has shared with fans over the years.
