Notre Dame, Miami leading the pack with blue-chip commits in 2027 cycle

According to On3’s recruiting rankings, it’s Texas A&M that has the No. 1-ranked class in the 2027 cycle. The Aggies have a whopping 26 commitments already and a total score of 94.173.

However, does having the most commitments equal having the best class? Not necessarily, and On3’s blue-chip tracker verifies that.

Blue-chip commitments

Teams can do more with less talent. Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines did that from 2021-2023, developing three-star recruits into starters he could lean on. But that’s not always the case, and the hope is for your favorite team to land as many four and five-star prospects as possible.

So far this cycle, Notre Dame has filled 83% of its commitments in the 2027 cycle with blue-chip recruits. The Irish are in the top spot, but what about the other teams?

According to On3, Miami is right behind the Irish, filling 81% of its class with blue-chip prospects. Ohio State is third at 79%, LSU is fourth at 75%, and Texas A&M comes in fifth with 73%.

For Notre Dame, which is leading the way, the Irish have three five-star prospects committed, along with 16 four-star recruits.

Zero blue-chip commits?

The blueblood programs are going to get the most blue-chip prospects. With Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and revenue sharing a thing now, the top-tier programs are going to have money to disburse to the best prospects.

But that’s not for every program out there. In fact, there are 39 teams that have zero blue-chip prospects committed in the 2027 class. There are programs you wouldn’t expect to pull in blue-chip prospects, like FIU, South Alabama, and Marshall, among others.

But there are also programs you’d think could land a four-star recruit who’s considered a blue-chip. A few teams that have zero are Oregon State, USF, UCF, Virginia, Utah, Iowa and Kansas, among others.

It might take winning more football games, or gearing up to hand out some more money for some of these programs to get a few blue-chips in the class.
