Tennessee defensive back suffers injury in fall training camp

Tennessee practiced for a seventh time during fall training camp on Friday. Junior defensive back Edrees Farooq suffered a leg injury in practice, according to Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Farooq was also transported to UT Medical Center.
The 6-foot, 202-pound safety appeared in 26 games, including 13 starts, for the Vols from 2024-25. He has totaled 89 tackles, one tackle for a loss, two interceptions, five pass deflections, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery during his collegiate career.
Farooq returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown at Kentucky on Oct. 25, 2025. His career high for tackles in a game is 10 against Oklahoma on Nov. 1, 2025.
The third-year defensive back is from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He committed to the Vols over Penn State, Ohio State, West Virginia and Michigan.
Farooq enrolled early at Tennessee in Jan. 2023 and participated in Citrus Bowl practices. He participated in the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando, Florida after the Citrus Bowl.
