Colorado's rebuilt defensive line received a notable preseason nod from Pro Football Focus, with Ezra Christensen and Dylan Manuel both listed among the top 10 returning defensive tackles in the Big 12.

Christensen topped the ranking with an 88.6 PFF grade, while Manuel checked in at No. 10 at 71.4. Texas Tech had five players on the list, but Colorado was one of only a few programs with multiple defensive tackles included. It should be noted that Tulane transfer Santana Hopper should be included on the list, as he finished with an 80 PFF grade last season.

For the Buffs, the ranking is another reminder of what Christensen could mean to Chris Marve's defense — if he is cleared to play. The 6-foot-2, 280-pound transfer is still awaiting a written ruling in his eligibility case against the NCAA. He earned first-team All-Conference USA honors at New Mexico State last season after totaling 42 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks and a forced fumble. Christensen also led the FBS with 28 quarterback hurries and pressures.

Manuel's spot on the list is important, too. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound Appalachian State transfer has stepped into more first-team work during camp while Christensen's case remains unresolved. Manuel posted 37 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception in 12 games for the Mountaineers last season.

Colorado has spent much of the offseason trying to add more size and resistance to its defensive front after a 3-9 campaign. Christensen gives the Buffs a proven disruptor with the flexibility to move around the line. Manuel is more of a sturdy interior presence who can occupy blockers and help the linebackers run free.

The picture will be clearer once the court rules on Christensen's eligibility. But PFF's ranking suggests Colorado could have two legitimate Big 12-level pieces at defensive tackle if both transfers are available when the Buffs open Sept. 3 at Georgia Tech.
