USC has secured its first commitment of the 2028 recruiting class, landing three-star quarterback Trey Wright of Frisco (Texas) Lone Star. Wright announced his decision on Saturday, choosing the Trojans over Oregon, SMU, Kentucky and Arizona.
The commitment stands out because Wright was the only quarterback USC offered in the 2028 cycle. Lincoln Riley extended that offer on Aug. 8 after identifying Wright as the Trojans’ top target at the position. USC also offered just one quarterback in the 2027 class and ultimately did not take a quarterback that cycle.
Wright enters his junior season coming off one of the nation’s best campaigns in 2025. He accounted for 5,826 yards while helping Lone Star reach the Class 5A UIL state championship game. His production included 4,062 passing yards and 43 touchdowns through the air, along with 1,798 rushing yards and 16 rushing scores. Those numbers earned Wright MaxPreps Sophomore first team All-American recognition.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound quarterback is regarded as an exceptional athlete with strong arm talent, accuracy and touch on deep throws. He has shown the ability to make plays from inside the pocket while also creating opportunities when plays break down. Wright also plays basketball and already holds Division I offers.
His decision gives Riley another Texas quarterback to develop after his successful work with Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray at Oklahoma. Mayfield became a Heisman Trophy winner under Riley, while Murray also won the award with Riley as his coach. Jalen Hurts additionally improved his NFL stock during his 2019 season at Oklahoma under Riley.
Wright is the first high-profile Texas quarterback to choose Riley during his USC tenure. With his commitment, the Trojans have their first 2028 quarterback and an early centerpiece for the recruiting class.
