MWCConnection Recruiting Roundup 8-17-26. Should G6 schools pitch getting paid at P4 schools?

It’s another week of the Recruiting Roundup.
247 discussed the recruiting pitch some Group of 6 schools are using to attract recruits and transfer players. No longer is the pitch early playing time or a plan of development. For those who are fans of Jeff Choate and the Nevada Wolf Pack, it should sound familiar.
247Sports spoke with several Group of Six commitments about their recruitments. While not every staff approaches things this way, multiple prospects said coaches openly discussed the possibility of eventually transferring to a Power Four program — and in some cases encouraged them to do it…
…Many players who end up at Group of Six programs believe they were overlooked coming out of high school. Rather than viewing their college choice as the end goal, they see it as a chance to prove they belong at the highest level.
Northern Illinois is one of the schools mentioned, and we know Nevada uses this pitch as well.
Because G6 schools can’t compete with bigger schools financially, they have to think outside the box, as they usually do. After all, identifying talent has never been the issue for mid-majors. Securing talent has been a challenge, and in the portal era, the main issue is retaining it.
But rather than fight a losing battle, can a Group of 6 school attract talent by pitching the opportunity to have a strong season and get paid by a bigger school? That plan can work one year at a time, and then the trick becomes reloading in the transfer portal year after year. This model can work, but it depends on your ability to attract the same amount of talent that leaves each season.
As the season draws closer, recruiting is basically at a standstill. The focus is clearly on the impending season. There was one lone offer and no known commitments. As Hawaii was the only offer, they are featured on the cover photo.

Recruiting Calendar:
Starting tomorrow and going through the rest of the summer, we are now in a dead period. All in-person contact of any kind is off-limits. But that doesn’t mean recruiting stops; it just slows down as coaches focus on the start of the season. As always, it is okay for texts, calls, and DMs.
Next College Student Athlete says:
The most restrictive of all the recruiting periods is the NCAA Dead Period. During the dead period, coaches may not have any in-person contact with recruits and/or their parents. In other words, coaches are not allowed to talk to recruits at their college campus, the athlete’s school, an athletic camp or even the grocery store.
While the term “dead period” makes it seem like all recruiting stops during this time, that’s actually not the case. Athletes and coaches are still allowed to communicate via phone, email, social media and other digital communication channels. While NCAA Division 1 programs are prohibited from conducting any in-person recruiting, D1 college coaches can still contact student-athletes via digital forms of communication during the dead period.
