Texas A&M football just secured an early commitment from one of the most talented quarterbacks in the 2028 recruiting class.

Five-star prospect Donald Tabron II announced his commitment to the Aggies on Saturday, choosing Texas A&M over LSU and Oregon.

The decision gives head coach Mike Elko his second commitment in the 2028 cycle and a potential centerpiece around whom the entire class can be constructed.

Tabron already owns the production to match his recruiting reputation.

The 6-4, 190-pound quarterback led Detroit’s Cass Technical High School to a 13-1 record last season, throwing for 2,819 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Through 24 career appearances, he has accumulated 4,475 passing yards and 52 touchdowns.

Those numbers explain why several national programs wanted him.

Tabron combines impressive arm strength with a quick release and advanced accuracy for a quarterback entering only his junior season.

He’s shown the ability to attack defenses vertically, deliver throws into tight windows and consistently put his receivers in position to create yards after the catch.

The commitment also provides another significant endorsement of the culture Elko is building in College Station.

Tabron developed particularly strong relationships with Elko and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch during his recruitment.

Shortly after announcing his decision, he summarized his belief in the program with a confident message: “Elko era, Gig ’em.”

That phrase has become a theme among Texas A&M recruits.

Five-star 2027 offensive tackle Mark Matthews previously delivered a similar message, suggesting the Aggies’ top commitments are buying into more than facilities and SEC exposure.

They’re buying into Elko’s long-term vision.

Tabron has already begun thinking like a class leader, identifying other highly regarded 2028 prospects he wants Texas A&M to pursue.

His early commitment could give the Aggies a valuable recruiter inside one of the country’s most talented classes.

Of course, Texas A&M’s work isn’t finished. The 2028 signing period remains far away, and LSU, Oregon and other contenders aren’t likely to end their pursuit.

Elko and his staff must continue strengthening their relationship with Tabron as his national profile grows.

If the commitment holds, Tabron projects as a natural fit in offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins’ system. His arm talent, accuracy and developing frame give him legitimate future-starter potential.

Texas A&M didn’t merely add another name to an early recruiting list. The Aggies landed a quarterback capable of attracting elite talent—and possibly defining the next phase of the Elko era.
