Miami football is trying to get back to the national championship this year in hopes of winning, and they’re building the roster to do so. Head coach Mario Cristobal knows the type of players he needs on the team in order for them to be successful, and he also knows when it’s time to make some changes. That’s what he recently did, as wide receiver Cam Vaughn was dismissed from the team.
Vaughn transferred from West Virginia after beginning his collegiate career at Jacksonville State. He finished with 35 receptions for 541 yards and four touchdowns at West Virginia, and was one of the highest-graded players in their offense.
He then committed to Miami in January. Vaughn was one of 13 players to commit to Miami from the transfer portal i. in this past cycle. It’s uncertain why Cristobal made the decision to dismiss him, and it’ll be interesting to see if he goes to another team before the season begins.

There are big expectations for Miami this season, and it starts with Darian Mensah. Some are already predicting him to win the Heisman Trophy, including analyst J.D. Pickett.
“Cam Ward, that system they ran at Miami, they were top 15 in yards per pass that year,” Pickett said. “That’s an exciting brand of football to watch. … Cam Ward was must-see TV. I think that Darian Mensah will be more in that vein. And I think that will have Miami winning the ACC, in the College Football Playoff, and that will be enough to stamp him as your Heisman Trophy winner in 2026.”
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mensah run away with the trophy at the end of the season, and he has the talent to lead them to the championship.
