The Michigan Wolverines have missed on another quarterback target in the 2028 recruiting cycle, as four-star prospect Kaden Craft committed to Tennessee on Monday. The Lake Norman High School quarterback from Mooresville, North Carolina, selected the Volunteers over Michigan, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and Oregon.

Craft stands 6-foot-4 and weighs around 205-210 pounds. ESPN lists him as the No. 7 quarterback in the 2028 cycle and No. 103 overall in the SC Next ESPN Junior 300, while 247Sports ranks him No. 9 at quarterback, No. 5 in North Carolina and No. 131 nationally.

The commitment gives Tennessee its first pledge in the 2028 class. Craft received an offer from the Volunteers on Jan. 22 and visited Tennessee three times, with his latest trip coming for a May 31 camp. North Carolina was the first school to offer him, doing so on Jan. 18, 2025. His other offers included Virginia Tech, Duke, Florida State, NC State, Auburn, South Carolina, Miami, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Appalachian State, UCLA and Nebraska.

Craft has started 20 games at Lake Norman. As a sophomore in 2025, he completed 60% of his passes for 1,739 yards and 17 touchdowns while throwing only four interceptions. He also rushed for 387 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a freshman, he passed for 1,171 yards and 13 touchdowns and added four rushing scores, although he threw 12 interceptions.

Craft’s decision comes only two days after another elite 2028 quarterback target from the state of Michigan, four-star Donald Tabron II, officially chose Texas A&M over his national finalists.

The Wolverines remain involved with several 2028 quarterbacks. Five-star Jayden Wade of IMG Academy is committed to Georgia, but Michigan continues regular contact and is pursuing a potential visit. Tristin Gaines of Waller High School has the Wolverines among his five standout Power 4 programs and is considering a visit this fall. Jamar Howard of Clovis West has also included Michigan among his top 12 and is scheduled to return to Ann Arbor on Sept. 26 for the Iowa game after visiting in March.

Craft’s commitment also demonstrates the rapid pace of the 2028 quarterback cycle, with seven of the top 10 quarterbacks already committed, including six who announced decisions within the previous three months.
