Michigan football quarterback Bryce Underwood continues adjusting to new head coach Kyle Whittingham. But the dual-threat passer looks like he’s got two rising weapons via the College Football Recruiting trail who are stepping up big.
Michigan wide receivers coach Micah Simon pointed out who those newcomers are via Alejandro Zuniga of 247Sports Monday: Travis Johnson and Salesi Moa at wide receiver.
“We recruit to play guys as freshmen. It’s a new age of college football,” Simon said. “I definitely see those two being ready to go this season.”

Simon adds he believes he’s got a “good problem” on his hands with having the plethora of talent out wide. He additionally feels there’s no real urgency to redshirt both.
“You don’t have time to just bring a guy in and try to redshirt him and develop him for later. Every kid wants to graduate early,” Simon said. “So you have the time to develop him, and that’s my philosophy, and that’s our philosophy offensively and us as a team and with Coach Whitt.”
The Wolverines rarely played true freshmen at wide receiver in years past, though. Now Whittingham and Simon look ready to break off from a trend there.
Johnson presents a basketball element to Michigan, handing Underwood a lob specialist inside the red zone. The 6-foot-2 Moa brings a shifty and elusive element after the catch.
Both wideouts head to Ann Arbor during a transitional period, though. Michigan turns to the longtime Utah head coach following its abrupt firing of Sherrone Moore. The Wolverines are still predicted to deliver 10 wins and vie for a College Football Playoff spot, though.
