Which Ohio State home game would you most like to attend?

Throughout the year, we will be asking and answering questions about various Ohio State teams, the players, and anything else on our collective minds of varying degrees of importance. We are now over a week and a half into fall camp, which means that the season will kick off in less than three weeks. So, that means that you might need to start working on your gameday plans for the season. Some of you will be heading to every Ohio State game this season, some are season ticket holders at The Horseshoe, and some will be hoping to check out one game at Ohio Stadium.
So, in this week’s fan survey, we want to know: if you could only pick one, which home game you would most like to attend this season. Of course, the reasons behind why someone picks a specific game will be wildly different from person to person, but we want to know which one tops your list. From competition to stakes to weather to traditions to venue, which game do you want to experience in person?
Take a look at the options below, then vote in the survey at the bottom of the article. Over the weekend or early next week, we will share the results, so make sure to check back in with us in a few days. Question: Which home game would you most want to attend this season?
Now, before we get into the list of options, yes, I know that the Buckeyes will have seven home games this season, but we here at LGHL are still living a bit in the technological Stone Age apparently, and our new survey system only allows us to include six options. So, I apologize to all of the fans who were jonesing to check out the Bucks vs. the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sept. 19, but you will just have to voice your opinion as a write-in vote in the comments below.
I realize that I could have kept the in-state opponent in our survey options, but I instead opted to keep the season opener against Ball State on Sept. 5, especially following the news that it will serve as Ohio State’s Senior Day. A controversial decision for some in the fandom, but it certainly makes what will almost certainly be a butt-kicking a little more interesting for fans to attend.
Following the Kent State game, the Bucks will play for their only rivalry trophy, the beloved and iconic IlliBuck, as the Illinois Fighting Illini come to Columbus on Sept. 26. I think that Illinois will be an increasingly competent team, so this game should be an interesting, but probably not too anxious of a matchup, plus you get to see a bunch of junior class honorary members pass a wooden turtle over their heads.
Speaking of turtles, on Oct. 10, Maryland will come to town. I’m not sure how long Ryan Day holds grudges, but there was a time when, short of Michigan, there was no team that the OSU head coach wanted to embarrass more than the Terrapins, thanks to their assumed involvement in getting Chase Young suspended for the absolute dumbest reason in the history of dumb NCAA suspensions.
Ok, real talk, all of those games are good, and there is a reason to attend all of them, but here’s where things get interesting. On Nov. 7, the Oregon Ducks will visit The Shoe, and this very well could be a battle for the No. 1 ranking in the country, the top spot in the Big Ten, and the overall No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. If you want to watch elite-level college football, this is one you will want to be on hand for.
Then, a week later on Nov. 14, new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will return to Columbus with the Northwestern Wildcats. Throw in the fact that Day’s son R.J. is a Northwestern quarterback commit, and that could be fun.
And of course, we will wrap up the season with The Game. Kyle Whittingham will bring the Michigan Wolverines into Ohio Stadium for the first time, and he will see what a not-so-civil war looks and feels like for the very first time. I believe that the former Utah coach will get his new squad in as good of a situation as anyone possibly could, but this year’s Buckeye stars seem especially focused on taking out all of their early rivalry frustrations on the increasingly arrogant team up north; so if you can be there, you absolutely have to go.
As I said, there is no right or wrong answer when picking what game you would want to attend (although certain answers will absolutely get you judged by fellow fans). Perhaps a comfortable Buckeye victory that is in hand by the middle of the third quarter is what you are looking for. Or maybe you would prefer to witness a high-tension nail-biter that comes down to the wire.
