Is Avery Johnson A Top 10 Quarterback In Big 12?

When Avery Johnson first arrived at Kansas State, he was already lumped with some of the school's folklore heroes. 

He was expected to be next in the line of legendary quarterbacks that include Michael Bishop, Collin Klein and, yes even, Will Howard before he left to go lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to a national championship.

It appeared Johnson was on the way to joining these great quarterbacks. He was impressive late in his freshman season when he replaced Howard and won a bowl game. He then had a solid sophomore year in his first opportunity as the full-time starter. 

And then last year happened. 

Johnson's season was full of inconsistency. It led to a disappointing 6-6 finish, the team declining a bowl bid and coach Chris Klieman resigning. Johnson enters his final season with much to prove, especially the media. He no longer is considered a top five quarterback in the Big 12.  According to the Big Lead, Johnson checked in at No. 6.

Here's a list of others who are ranked higher by most media members. 

Connor Weigman, Houston Cougars 

Devon Dampier, Utah Utes

Bear Bachmeier, BYU Cougars 

Drew Mestermaker, Oklahoma State Cowboys

Noah Fiffita Arizona Wildcats 

That alone should provide more than enough motivation for Johnson, who is also trying to improve his NFL Draft stock. But more than anything he'd like to put the Wildcats in contention to win a Big 12 title and in the College Football Playoff. 

`CATS EXTEND OFFER TO ANOTHER TOP TIGHT END 

With less than a month until Kansas State football returns, the program is still game planning for the future.

It offered another 2028 class player on Monday morning. It was another tight end prospect, this time three-star Brady Reeves. He currently attends Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, MN. Reeves also received offers from Vanderbilt, Iowa State, and Miami (OH). He's ranked right outside the top 20 at his position on 247Sports.
