According to a new report from Swamp247, the University of Florida athletic department, including athletic director Scott Stricklin and multiple UAA representatives, met Thursday night with representatives of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
The report stated that the meeting did not take place in Oxford, Mississippi, but instead at an undisclosed location.
Florida football has been evaluating multiple candidates during its head coaching search, and Kiffin has been among the coaches heavily linked to the position since the Gators fired Billy Napier.
The Rebels are on a bye week and Kiffin seemed puzzled when asked whether uncertainty about his future could keep him from coaching Ole Miss in its next game.
When a reporter floated the possibility, he didn’t hide his confusion.
“Do I expect to coach next week? Why would I not expect to coach next week? I mean, I expected to coach against Florida, too,” Kiffin said on Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference. “So I don’t even understand the question of how I would not expect to coach next week.”
His tone made it clear that he wasn’t entertaining any scenario in which he wouldn’t be leading Ole Miss next week against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.
At this stage, the only confirmed information is that Florida officials and Kiffin’s representatives met in person Thursday night at a location outside of Oxford.
More updates are expected as Florida’s coaching search progresses.
