The film is already picking up steam with ‘Outer Banks’ star Jonathan Daviss set to star as the D-O-G-G ahead of its release in theaters next summer.
The upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic already had its Snoop in ‘Outer Banks’ star Jonathan Daviss. Now it officially has its Dr. Dre.
As announced on “TODAY,” actor Myles Bullock Be, best known for roles in “BMF,” “The Vince Staples Show” and “Criminal Minds,” has been tapped to play the legendary producer and West Coast figure who was instrumental in Snoop’s rise from Long Beach to global stardom. The producer-turned-hip-hop mogul previously had Hollywood turn his life into a movie with 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton,” directed by F. Gary Gray.
Bullock Be, who previously went by Myles Bullock as his professional name, joins Daviss, best known for his role as Pope Heyward on Netflix’s Outer Banks, who was previously announced as the D-O-Double-G. The casting brings together two actors to portray central figures in one of hip-hop’s most recognizable partnerships.
“LA Kid playing an LA Legend,” Bullock Be wrote on Instagram when the casting was announced.
After Dre left N.W.A., he began work on his solo album, “The Chronic.” In January 1992, he released his debut solo single, “Deep Cover,” which featured a young Snoop Dogg. After hearing his demo, Dre took Snoop under his wing, and the Long Beach rapper made good, becoming a breakout star on “The Chronic” before releasing the most anticipated debut album of 1993, “Doggystyle.” The album sold over 870,000 copies in its first week, the biggest first week for a debut hip-hop album at the time.
The film will be directed by Craig Bewer of “Hustle and Flow” fame and is tentatively scheduled for an August 2027 release.
