Texas Tech football endured one big offseason change involving former quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Now another massive move occurred for the Red Raiders. But this one involving the College Football Recruiting trail and top recruit Jalen Brewster.
The highest-rated recruit for Texas Tech’s 2027 class is switching schools, per recruiting insider for On3/Rivals Steve Wiltfong Saturday. The defensive lineman moves from Cedar Hill High in Texas to Georgia powerhouse Buford.
Brewster himself outlined with Wiltfong why he transferred.

“Transferring to Buford came down to what was best for my future,” Brewster told Wiltfong. “This move allows me to reach my goal of graduating in December while staying on track academically and athletically. I’m grateful for my time at Cedar Hill and excited for what’s ahead at Buford.”
Buford produced some notable high-profile recruits including Georgia safety KJ Bolden, Oregon quarterback transfer and former five-star Nebraska signing Dylan Raiola, plus incoming Auburn quarterback transfer Ashton Daniels. So Brewster rises as a new 2026 cornerstone for one of the top programs in the nation.
But now comes this for Texas Tech: Keeping Brewster on board for the ’27 class. Wiltfong adds that LSU is surfacing as the biggest threat to flip the 6-foot-3, 300-pounder. The Tigers have heated up on the recruiting trail and own a No. 10 national ranking for the current cycle.
So count on head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raider coaches to monitor things closely at Brewster’s new high school. All to make sure TTU doesn’t lose its best recruit now that he’s deep in SEC country.
