OXFORD — Details about the meetings between Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin and athletic director Keith Carter regarding Kiffin’s future have been released, and there is a timeline for a resolution.
An announcement about Kiffin’s future is expected the day after the Egg Bowl, Carter said in a statement on Nov. 21.
No. 6 Ole Miss (10-1, 6-1 SEC) is on an open week before playing at rival Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6) in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28 (11 a.m. CT, ABC).
Kiffin is the subject of the coaching rumor mill. LSU and Florida are trying to hire him as their next coach, while the Rebels are attempting to keep him in Oxford.
There had been earlier reports that Carter told Kiffin he wanted a decision before the Egg Bowl, which Kiffin denied.

“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor (Glenn) Boyce,” Carter’s statement said. “While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important − our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the season in historic fashion.
“Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday’s game. This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it’s imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead.

Carter said he and Kiffin are focused on preparing to face Mississippi State, despite the outside noise.
A win would cement the Rebels as a College Football Playoff team. It would be Ole Miss’ first CFP appearance in program history.
The Rebels are No. 6 in the latest CFP rankings.
