Texas A&M is 'fighting for' 2028 5-star OT's attention this fall

Texas A&M's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, is less than two weeks away, and as third-year coach Mike Elko and his talented roster prepare to open the new campaign on a high note, recruiting never stops, and the 2028 cycle will now take center stage. After landing 2028 5-star QB Donald Tabron II, the Aggies are reportedly in the running for the No. 1-ranked offensive tackle in the class, who happens to be Trabon's high school teammate.

Last week, Rivals insider Steven Wiltfong caught up with 2028 five-star OT Antijuan Wilkes Jr., who is obviously close with Donald Trabon and is considering a long list of blue-blood programs, including the Michigan Wolverines, who will also continue pursuing Trabon, who many consider the top player in Michigan.

While the Wolverines certainly hold an advantage with most Michigan-based recruits even after Jim Harbaugh's departure for the NFL, combined with the various controversies surrounding the program, Mike Elko's strong culture has led to nearly securing the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, which includes five-star offensive linemen Mark Matthews and Kennedy Browns

For Wilkes Jr., College Station offers much more than meets the eye, especially from an academic standpoint, while the Aggies' state-of-the-art nutrition center continues to impress every past and future prospect with NFL dreams and a need to reach their full physical potential.

“Everything stands out,” Wilkes said about Texas A&M. “The coaching, the academies, the nutrition, I just love it.”

Under third-year OL coach Adam Cushing, Texas A&M's current and future offensive line is all but set after signing six linemen in the 2025 cycle, who, combined with the four transfers, make up the 2026 offensive line that is by far the deepest during Elko's tenure.
