With the Texas football team preparing for an integral 2026 season, all eyes will be on star quarterback Arch Manning to see if he can finally live up to the hype and deliver a fully productive season. As Manning prepares for 2026 with the Texas football program, he would get an endorsement from a former player who has been in his same shoes.
While Young may not have had to live up to a football family name like the Mannings, the former Longhorn had the pressure of leading the school to new heights, which he did in 2005, winning a national championship. After an up-and-down season for Manning last year, throwing for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions, Young believes 2026 will be a “really good year” for Manning.
“The way that I’m hearing from the coaching staff about how more mature he is; that’s just setting the tone for me. When I came in, and I was more mature and comfortable with what’s going on, then I play better, and I didn’t have to worry about looking over my shoulders and things like that,” Young said, according to DJ Siddiqi at Ratings.

“To hear that he’s very confident and he’s taking the leadership role and wanting to be the leader of the team, that says a whole lot about him and his teammates and how they gravitate around him,” Young continued. “I really feel like he’s gonna have a better year because he’s got weapons over there. He’s got a better O-Line.”

Young would also reveal that he spoke to Manning in the offseason, as the young quarterback asked questions on building chemistry with the team, advice on the offense, and more. The former Texas football star expressed that if they fix aspects of their play on third downs, in the red zone, and on special teams, the Longhorns “they’re gonna be hard to beat.”
At any rate, Manning and the rest of the program will have the opportunity to show their improvements when they open the season on Sept. 5 against Texas State.
