North Penn beats Pennridge in district 6A football championship game

PERKASIE — For North Penn, it was an opportunity to win its eighth PIAA District One football championship, each of which has come with head coach Dick Beck.
Pennridge had its sights set on the school’s first district title in Kyle Beller’s third season as head coach after making the championship game during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.
North Penn ended up prevailing 21-14in a matchup of Suburban One League National Conference rivals to secure the district 6A crown on Friday night at Helman Field. Senior Matt Pownall carried 20 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns
Second-seeded North Penn, which had won eight in a row, defeated SOL National foe Neshaminy 35-7 in the semifinals after falling to Neshaminy 18-14 during the regular season. Top-seeded Pennridge, which downed Coatesville 17-14 a week ago, handled the visiting Knights 34-10 on Sept. 19. The Rams had won five in a row since falling to Central Bucks West on Oct. 10.
Pennridge went into Friday 8-0 at home and 5-0 in one-score games this season, while North Penn was 3-2 in road contests (8-0 at home) and 1-1 in one-score games.
What’s next for North Penn Football?
The 12-2 Knights will face the La Salle-Easton winner in the PIAA state semifinals Nov. 28.
What’s next for Pennridge Football?
The Rams ended their season with a 12-2 record and earned their first SOL National title since 2020.
